The well-known technical genius joined the Red Bull team in 2006 and has since won six constructors championships with the team and seven drivers championships after Max Verstappen's first triumph in 2021, ending Lewis Hamilton's four-year consecutive winning streak.
Newey, who has previously worked and won championships with Williams and McLaren, spoke with Martin Brundle over the Miami Grand Prix about his future, saying:
“Well, Formula 1’s all-consuming; I’ve been at it for a long time now.
"2021 was a really busy year because of the tight battle with Mercedes through the championship and, at the same time, putting all the research and development into the [RB]18, which was the father of this generation of cars.
“Then, I don’t know, there comes a point where, as Forrest Gump said, I’m feeling a little bit tired.”
But many have speculated on his future, with Ferrari and Aston Martin being the two teams named at the moment, but no solid talks have been confirmed as of yet. However, for the first time, Newey has hinted that he may work for another team after Red Bull.
Speaking with his manager Eddie Jordan in a marketing video for a yacht company on Youtube, Newey broke his silence on his future:
“[I'm] seriously considering changing teams, going somewhere else, and doing another four or five years or whatever.
"I feel a little bit tired at the moment, but at some point I’ll probably go again.”
Newey has already begun his gardening leave, as he will work on Red Bull’s hypercar project, the RB17. It is believed this will end around May next year, when he will be able to take his next step in his career.
