George Russell topped the times in FP2 for just the second time ever for Mercedes in 2022 which really shows the downfall of the team, but does this show that the new upgrades may give Mercedes some hope?
As we know, when this years regulation changes came in, Mercedes arrived in Bahrain with a different car to most teams as it didn’t include any sidepods on the car.
As a result, this caused more airflow to the floor causing the car to bounce more down the straight or “porpoising”. So what have Mercedes done to try and improve this for Miami and beyond?
It is believed that Mercedes have a new rear wing, rear wing, beam wing and believe they have lost 3kg as they try to lose weight on the car.
Despite this, Toto Wolff has said “The new parts reduce drag and the asphalt here helps with the bounce. But we have to be honest. It's not like we've found a groundbreaking solution.”
